Cloutier, Irene

Irene Cloutier was born in Culiacan, Mexico where her father owned a plastic factory.  Her early introduction to the material is what draws her to using it in her artistic practice today.  She places plastic objects in unexpected surroundings, creating a new narrative for both the object and the setting.  While her work is highly colorful and chaotic, the slick surfaces of both the subject matter and the artwork itself have a feeling of artificiality that is a comment on today’s consumer culture.

Irene Cloutier received her MA from George Mason University.  She has had recent solo exhibitions at the Capitol One Headquarters, McLean, VA and in Miami at Diana Lowestein Fine Art.  Her work has been exhibited across the country as well as internationally.  She lives and works in the Washington, DC metro area.
